mylife YpsoPump Carry Collection
Diabetes care: a complete carry family, from design to delivery
Client snapshot
mylife Diabetes Care, formerly part of Ypsomed, develops solutions that make everyday life with diabetes simpler. Its mylife YpsoPump is a small, lightweight insulin pump designed around ease of use, with a touchscreen interface and a compact, refined form. For people who wear it every day, the accessories that carry and protect the pump are as much part of the experience as the device itself.
The challenge
The carry case project started at the launch of the YpsoPump, one of the most important moments in the product's life. At the time, the mylife team was short on human resources and could not run a full accessory programme alongside the launch. They needed a partner able to take complete ownership of the carry solutions: design, development, manufacturing and strong logistics support.
The brief went beyond a single case. mylife wanted a collection of accessories that would improve how users wear, use and live with their pump in different situations, from daily routines and sport to travel and storage at home.
The biggest design challenge came from the device itself. The YpsoPump is small, sleek and precise. Any accessory had to match that elegance and precision. A bulky case or a generic pouch would have undermined everything the device stood for. Each item needed to protect the pump and support its use, while keeping the overall footprint as slim as possible.
Function could not be compromised either. Users must be able to read the screen, interact with the pump and wear it comfortably, all without disrupting the flow of insulin through the infusion line.
The solution

The Forward AP design team developed a full collection of items for the YpsoPump, then worked with mylife to select the ones to take forward. The common thread was a combination of injection-moulded parts and slim textile solutions, each material chosen for what it does best.
The silicone skin is the most minimal layer of protection. It is made from high-tensile, medical-grade silicone, which allowed the team to work with very thin walls and large openings while keeping the skin strong and protective. The pump remains fully accessible, the screen stays visible, and the device keeps its slim profile. Users get protection against everyday knocks without adding visible bulk.
The frame clip is the most distinctive piece in the collection. It is injection-moulded in a graphite grey, translucent polycarbonate that complements the look of the pump. Instead of enclosing the device, the frame holds the YpsoPump by its two unused corners, leaving the screen, controls and connection points free. The result is a slim, elegant and unique solution. At the back, a 360° rotating clip lets users wear the pump in many positions, on a belt, a waistband or a pocket edge, without compromising the insulin flow or the visibility of the screen.
The reservoir box answers a very practical need. This injection-moulded container holds up to eight insulin cartridges and can be stored in the fridge. It opens easily and is simple to clean, which matters for a product handled every day and kept close to medication. Cartridges stay organised, protected and easy to find.

The wallet is the most classic item in the family, designed for users who prefer a covered, textile solution. It is a slim piece of constructed textile that wraps around the device and closes with a magnet, allowing quick, quiet access with one hand. Inside, an HDPE cradle holds the pump securely in place and protects it from impacts. A belt clip on the back completes the design for everyday wear.
Together, the four items give users a choice of how to carry their pump, from almost invisible to fully covered, while sharing a consistent design language that reflects the YpsoPump itself.
Beyond design, Forward AP took care of the entire process. The team managed development and sampling, set up and ran production, and provided logistics support so mylife could focus its resources on the pump launch.

Outcome
The project removed a large part of the workload from mylife at a critical moment, giving the team a single partner for everything from concept to delivery.
More than eight years after the first production run, the collection is still current and still in production. Over that time, Forward AP has proactively suggested small changes and improvements to keep the products performing at their best. For mylife, the carry collection has become a long-term, reliable part of the YpsoPump experience. For users, it offers a set of accessories that are as thoughtful and refined as the device they carry.
